Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan (JASEM) provides critical educational programs to students in Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Saint Clair, Shiawassee, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. Chartered in 1949, JA has linked students, volunteers and supporters for over 60 years touching the lives of more that 1.5 million young people. JASEM is based in Detroit and reaches K-12 students with proven, quality educational programs that provide an understanding of financial concepts, a vision of economic opportunity, and a reason to stay in school. Inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy, JASEM programs are critical to students in the most under-served communities.
Organizational facts for the 2010/11 school year:
- 36,829 students were impacted this year.
- 1,271 volunteers taught in-school JA programs, helped at Quicken Loans JA Finance Park, and guided students through the world of work in JA Job Shadows.
- 8,257 students figured out how to plan a monthly budget and live within their means through the JA Finance Park program.
- $1,037,095 was raised through the generosity of businesses, foundations and individuals in our community.
- 1,401 classes at 274 schools and community organizations participated in JA programs.
- $40 is the average cost for JA to positively influence the life of one child through exceptional, evaluated programming.
Governed by a nonprofit Board of Directors, the organization strives to be effectively run, responsive to community needs and innovative in thinking and acting.
